How can I surrender my unwanted pet?

Animal Shelter staff will be happy to discuss this matter with you.  We normally ask for a $25 donation to cover costs of taking over the care and shelter for your pet.  learn more

Do I have to pay to adopt a pet from the Shelter?

Yes, most dogs at The Animal Shelter cost $108; if you are seeking a specific breed, they may be more expensive, anywhere from $125 to $225; this includes the adoption fee, their spay or neuter, a microchip, and if appropriate a Union County dog license. Fees start at $22 for cats.  Fees can vary depending on spay or neuter needs and other factors.  learn more

What is the Owner Surrender Questionnaire?

The Owner Surrender Questionnaire must be filled out when you come to the shelter to surrender a pet.

Can anyone adopt a pet?

You must be at least 18, submit proof of name and age,  and meet some other requirements.  learn more

Would you ever euthanize an animal?

Yes, unfortunately this may be necessary, as our policies and ethics do not allow us to adopt out animals that are sick or likely to be dangerous in the community.  Such animals may have to be euthanized if they fail our pre-adoption tests for health and aggression.  learn more

Can you arrange for my unwanted pet to be transferred to the Oregon Humane Society in Portland?

Yes, some animals qualify for transfer to the Oregon Humane Society (OHS) facilities.  We need advance notice to make these arrangements.  learn more

Can I help with transportation to or from Portland’s Oregon Humane Society facilities?

Yes!  We would greatly appreciate your donation of help with transportation of qualifying animals to OHS, as well as transportation of pet food that OHS may be able to distribute for area shelters.  learn more
