The Blue Mountain Humane Association is a non-profit humane organization committed to the welfare of all animals in our care, and thus considers pet ownership a serious responsibility.
In order to adopt an animal from the shelter, you must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have identification showing proof of name and age
- Be able and willing to spend the time and money necessary to provide training, medical treatment, and proper care for a pet you are considering to adopt.
Dog Adoption Fees
- Most dogs at The Animal Shelter cost $125; if you are seeking a female over 60 pounds the cost is $150; this includes the adoption fee, their spay or neuter, vaccinations and a microchip.
Cat Adoption Fees
- Female cats and kittens at The Animal Shelter cost $90; while male cats and kittens are $70.; this includes the adoption fee, their spay or neuter, vaccinations and a microchip.
Health and Other Requirements
The animals available for adoption have come from a variety of sources. Adoption guarantee: all of these animals have been examined upon entry, and their health is routinely monitored while at the shelter; but there is always a chance that an animal is incubating a disease without showing any clinical signs; therefore, you receive a complementary examination by any of the Veterinary clinics in La Grande to insure that your new pet is healthy. If you have to return a new adoptee, for any reason, we can only refund the cost of the adoption, minus the cost of the spay/neuter and microchip within the first two weeks.
In order to assist you in finding that special pet which meets your lifestyle as well as being in the animal’s best interest, you will need to provide some information to an adoption counselor who will assist you in completing the adoption process. This information includes such information as your reason for the adoption, your ability to care for your new pet, type of residence where the pet will reside, numbers and age of residence members, known allergies of persons of the residence, your experience with pet ownership, knowledge of species behavior, and local laws regarding pet ownership. The Animal Shelter Staff reserves the right to refuse adoption to anyone for any reason. No animals will be adopted to persons having an extensive history of losing, giving away, selling, or having animals injured or killed by moving vehicles. In some cases a premise inspection by an Animal Control Officer or Humane Society representative may be necessary before the adoption process can be completed.
