Mission

“The Blue Mountain Humane Association is a nonprofit group with the goals of educating our community about the ethical treatment of animals and the successful operation of the Louise McNeely Animal Shelter. Our success will help ensure that people and animals can coexist in safety and within the law.”

The Animal Shelter offers humane treatment for lost, stray, and unwanted pet animals. This includes those animals brought in by the public as well as animals impounded by local animal control. BMHA contracts with Union County to house and feed these impounded animals. Roughly one half of the kennel space is reserved for impounded animals. If these animals are not reclaimed, they become the property of the Animal Shelter.

There is little question that the Animal Shelter is a real asset to Union County. Not only does it help keep the city healthier and more livable, it also tells visitors about the way we live and take care of all living creatures — a community that takes care of it’s animals is also likely to care for their fellow humans.
